DESCRIPTION

The precursor to the well-known Rocky Horror Picture Show, RHS boasts a rich cult following with hilarious audience participation, as well as a wild and boisterous rock n’ roll score. Don’t miss your chance to do the Time Warp again!

Important Note – This show is intended for mature audiences only, due to language and adult situations. This also applies to audition material. This production will be the full book musical, not a shadow cast in front of the film and will require live singing, dynamic dancing, and high energy from the cast. Some characters will be partially clothed and perform scenes that are highly sexualized in nature. STC places great importance on the safety of its participants and creating a consent forward production. If you have any questions about what to expect, please email STC at SpringfieldTheatreCentre@gmail.com.

Performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, and ages (18+), as well as performers with disabilities are encouraged to audition.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

FRANK ‘N’ FURTER: Male Presenting Transvestite, 25-45 (Range: Baritone, D3-G4)
Master of the castle and of seduction, Frank is a Mad Scientist alien bent on creating the “perfect man”. He’s something of the antagonist; rude, confident and sexy. He eventually becomes the victim of his own hubris. Must be comfortable performing the entire show in lingerie and high heels.

BRAD: Male Presenting, 18-40 (Range: Bari Tenor, Bb2-G4)
A strait-laced man from Denton, Brad Majors is attempting to visit his old mentor, Dr. Everett V. Scott, with his new fiancée, Janet Weiss, when he stumbles upon Frank-n-Furter’s castle and life is changed forever. Must be comfortable performing in only a pair of briefs or lingerie throughout most of the show.

JANET: Female Presenting, 18-40 (Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt, A3-Eb5)
A simple-minded, naive, and innocent girl at the onset, Janet Weiss “gives herself over to absolute pleasure” at the castle, despite her recent engagement to Brad Majors. Must be comfortable wearing only undergarments only on stage.

NARRATOR: Any Gender, Age Flexible (Range: Non-Singing Role) A host who explains the plot and tells the story to the audience. Performer must maintain a serious facade and possess good comic timing while enduring relentless sass from the audience. Some improv experience helpful.

RIFF RAFF: Male Presenting, Age Flexible (Range: High Rock Tenor, D3-B4) Brother/lover of Magenta and a disgruntled, jealous Transylvanian underling of Dr. Frank-n-Furter, Riff-Raff eventually overthrows his master in order to return to his home planet with his sister. Riff has a very creepy vibe.

USHERETTE / MAGENTA: Female Presenting, Age Flexible (Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt, Bb3-Eb5) Magenta is a domestic from the planet Transsexual, in the galaxy Transylvania. Sister and lover of Riff-Raff, Magenta has a rude at times, almost maniacal nature about her. Sings the opening number with actor playing Columbia.

USHERETTE / COLUMBIA: Female Presenting, Age Flexible (Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt, E4-E5)
An immature groupie who is Eddie’s ex-girlfriend. One fiercely loyal to Frank, she quickly realizes that he’s simply using her, like everyone else. Columbia is prone to childish, emotional outbursts. Sings the opening number with actor playing Magenta.  Tap Dancing skills are an asset.

ROCKY: Male Presenting 18-35, VERY FIT, (Range: Tenor, A3-G4) Created from scratch in the strange laboratory of Dr. Frank-n-Furter, Rocky came into the world simply to do anything for his creator. Designed to be blonde, dreamy, and statuesque, Rocky’s knowledge of the world is limited to the purely lustful and sexual. Must be comfortable in nothing but briefs on stage and may have to dye their hair platinum blond.

EDDIE / DR. SCOTT: Male Presenting, Age Flexible (Range: Baritone, E3-F#4) Dr. Everett Scott, mentor of Brad and Janet and uncle of Eddie, comes to the castle in search of his nephew and serves as the scientific voice of reason. Dr Scott performs in a wheelchair. Eddie from birth is a rotten egg, perpetually finding trouble. He is implied to have had sexual relations with both Dr. Frank-n-Furter and Columbia and seems to have no sense of control or sanity.

PHANTOMS / TRANSYLVANIANS 10-15

The creepy ensemble of strong singers and dancers who will also serve as some set pieces and props. Special skills and unique talents are welcome.
