Though the most modest toy in the nursery, The Velveteen Rabbit earns the love of a young boy and learns about the joys and pain of becoming “Real.” Margery Williams’ classic book springs to magical life in this enchanting play about love, loss and self-esteem.

Readings: If you’d like to prepare a short Monologue that is welcome. It needs to be FUNNY or SINCERE monologue. Not overly dramatic. Something to show us your reading ability. IF YOU DO NOT PREPARE, THATS OK! We Will have you read from a fairy tale or part of the actual Story of the Velveteen Rabbit. If you are unavailable for the Saturday auditions, arrangements can be made for another audition time. Contact the director at 217-741-3605 or email@example.com.
CALLBACKS- IF NEEDED Will be held on Sunday February 6th, 2011. They will start at 12:30PM and be held until we’re done. Those auditioning will be told on Saturday if they are needed on Sunday. Script readings will be done on this day.

ALEX – Highly imaginative and full of life. He is never disrespectful or argumentative. He loves Nana and the Velveteen Rabbit. AGE – 7 to 9. MUST BE ABLE TO READ! (Lead Role)
NANA- She is plump and wears her hair in a bun. She is a Auntie/grandmotherly type woman, who wears sensible shoes, house dress and apron. She cared for Alex’s father and now him. AGE-40+ (Lead Role)
The DOCTOR – He has a sense of Humor, Cares for Alex a lot. Maybe a bit stocky, facial hair. Very dignified and yet fun. AGE – 30+ (Supporting Role)
The TOY FAIRY – She helps the Velveteen Rabbit learn how to become Real. She is a vision of flowing gossamer, pearls and dewdrops. AGE- Teenager and Up. (Supporting Role)
TOYS – ALL SPEAKING TOY ROLES MUST BE ABLE TO READ EASILY. There are a few toy parts available for Children that aren’t able to read fluently on their own. Please note this on the audition sheet.
TIMOTHY- He is a toy lion. He is allergic to dust. He has a bit of an attitude, especially towards the Velveteen Rabbit. BOY Age – 7-11 – (supporting role)
MOUSE- Wind Up toy mouse. She seems snobbish and hard at first, but as time goes on she shows us her caring side. GIRL – Ages 8-12 (Supporting Role)
BULKA- A rag dog. He is always Dusty and too much excitement causes him to faint. BOY Ages 8-12(Supporting Role)
The VELVETEEN RABBIT – He is an innocent and gentle little rabbit and learns, the course of the play, about love and friendship. He starts off as a toy and becomes real. BOY OR GIRL AGE 8 -13 (LEAD ROLE)
The SKIN HORSE- He has lived longer then any of the others. In his youth, he could be ridden by small children, but his legs are too wobbly now. He is kind, patient, and wise. MALE – Age Teenager to Adult (Supporting Role)
RABBIT 1 & 2 – Real Rabbits who live in the woods near the house. They tease the Velveteen Rabbit, before he becomes a real rabbit. MALE/FEMALE – Ages 7 and up.
WHITE RABBIT- Will make announcements before the show, maybe a toy in nursery. MALE/FEMALE Ages 7 and Up
Toys – Chicken, Harelequin, Blocks.
Rabbits – 2 or 3 extras.
